25th April: World Malaria Day
Today is the International Day against Malaria and we'd like to invite you to participate in Malariathon, a "marathon" against malaria. Our goal for today is to virtually detect 20,000 malaria parasites. Can you help us?You just have to play 1 minute! You can also check the scores to see if you are among the best players.
Why you should play?
Worlwide, there are more than 600.000 malaria cases per day. One child dies every minute because of malaria
Malaria is caused by a parasite, transmitted by mosquito bites. Once in the human body, parasites infect the red bloods cells.
A single diagnosis can take up to 30 min. of a specialist's time, as they manually look for parasites in the blood with a microscope.
A global network of virtual "malaria hunters" could help with the routine job of diagnosing malaria everywhere.
